DC Solid-State Circuit Breakers with Two-Winding Coupled Inductor for DC Microgrid

Ensuring a protection scheme in DC distribution system is more difficult to achieve against pole-to-ground faults than AC because of the absence zero crossing points and low line impedance. To complement major obstacle limiting fault current, several compositions have been proposed related mechanical switching solid-state switching. Among them, circuit breakers (SSCBs) are considered be possible solution limit fast current. However, they may cause problems complexity, reliability, cost-related troubles use multiple power semiconductor devices additional configuration commutate This paper proposes SSCB with coupled inductor (SSCB-CI) that has symmetrical configuration. The comprised passive components like commutation capacitors, CI, damping resistors. Thus, SSCB-CI offers advantages simple fewer utilized other typical SSCBs microgrid. For analysis, six operation states described for voltage across main switches effectiveness short-circuit proved via simulation experimental results lab-scale prototype.
